STATIONS OF THE CROSS

Jesus is Condemned to Death
Mark 15:1-5, 15

Join us in a journey of reflection through The Stations of the Cross—a powerful practice that invites us to walk through the moments leading up to Jesus’ death.

We encourage you to pause for a moment and read through the following scripture and prayer.

Mark 15:1-5, 15 (NLT)

1 Very early in the morning the leading priests, the elders, and the teachers of religious law—the entire high council—met to discuss their next step. They bound Jesus, led him away, and took him to Pilate, the Roman governor. 2 Pilate asked Jesus, “Are you the king of the Jews?”

Jesus replied, “You have said it.” 3 Then the leading priests kept accusing him of many crimes, 4 and Pilate asked him, “Aren’t you going to answer them? What about all these charges they are bringing against you?” 5 But Jesus said nothing, much to Pilate’s surprise.15 So to pacify the crowd, Pilate released Barabbas to them. He ordered Jesus flogged with a lead-tipped whip, then turned him over to the Roman soldiers to be crucified.

Prayer

Dear Lord,

May we know the debt we no longer owe. How fitting that the one condemned would, in fact, defeat condemnation. What you have saved us from, you have endured. A trial with one outcome. A ruling without hope. Sentencing leading to the brutality of the cross. Condition our hearts to be postured to always look toward the cross, for you are the one who took condemnation and made it bow down to the hope of glory.

Amen.

The prayer today was thoughtfully crafted by our Orlando Student Minister, Johnny Outing.

Take this prayer and meditate on it throughout the rest of the day.
