STATIONS OF THE CROSS

Jesus is Laid in the Tomb
Matthew 27:57-60

Join us in a journey of reflection through The Stations of the Cross—a powerful practice that invites us to walk through the moments leading up to Jesus’ death.

We encourage you to pause for a moment and read through the following scripture and prayer.

Matthew 27:57-60 (NLT)

The Burial of Jesus

57 As evening approached, Joseph, a rich man from Arimathea who had become a follower of Jesus, 58 went to Pilate and asked for Jesus’ body. And Pilate issued an order to release it to him. 59 Joseph took the body and wrapped it in a long sheet of clean linen cloth. 60 He placed it in his own new tomb, which had been carved out of the rock. Then he rolled a great stone across the entrance and left.

Prayer

Father,

As we think of Joseph tenderly taking Jesus’ body from the cross, anointing it with spices and wrapping it in linen—in order to lay it in his own planned burial place—we embrace the sadness and unfairness of your death on our behalf. We sit in the darkness and stillness of loss and ask you to impress on us the magnitude of love that you had (and have) for all of us, your children.

Amen.

The prayer today was thoughtfully crafted by our Orlando Hospitality Coordinator, Carolyn Smith.

Take this prayer and meditate on it throughout the rest of the day.
