THROUGH WATER DEVOTIONAL

Week 2 | Day 2

John the Baptist: The Water that Makes Christ Grow in Me

Word

I was reconnecting with my church at the age of 28, after many missteps, when I heard an unusual call:

“We need storytellers.”

It felt as if, in a spiritual sense, all the angels present in that small group meeting suddenly turned and looked at me. I’m pretty sure I was the only one who felt the imaginary pressure of their gaze.

And I said, somewhat reluctantly,

“Ok… I’ll do it.”

I began to serve, and having studied the art of storytelling, that moment eventually led me to what I do today: training storytellers for children’s ministries in churches. Who would have thought? Today I help prepare the way for others who will also prepare the way for the children of today and the servants of tomorrow.

And just like John the Baptist, we too are called to prepare the way — with love and dedication — using the wonderful gifts God has given us to share His Word and to point others to Jesus. Because in the end, it is not about us.

We renounce being the center of our own world and surrender our personal throne to Christ, obeying His Word and following His steps, allowing ourselves to be used as His beloved and beautiful instruments.

GRATITUDE

Is there a situation you can thank God for where you and your gifts were not the center, but His grace was?
