STATIONS OF THE CROSS
Jesus is Nailed to the Cross
Luke 23:33-34
Join us in a journey of reflection through The Stations of the Cross—a powerful practice that invites us to walk through the moments leading up to Jesus’ death.
We encourage you to pause for a moment and read through the following scripture and prayer.
Luke 22:33-34 (NLT)
33 When they came to a place called The Skull, they nailed him to the cross. And the criminals were also crucified—one on his right and one on his left.
34 Jesus said, “Father, forgive them, for they don’t know what they are doing.” And the soldiers gambled for his clothes by throwing dice.
Jesus our King, the one John introduces to us as The Word, through which everything made was made- the bringer and giver of life, the breath in our lungs. He is now brought to The Skull, also known as Golgotha or Calvary, the place of the dead, not a normal cemetery but the place of execution of criminals. Lives are taken away here. The one who brought us life, his life we are now taking from him. With uttermost humiliation and torture, yet he loved us to the end and prayed for our forgiveness. On the cross he lay, a few breaths from his last and wrath he did not declare, only love he exhaled and prayed to the Father for our forgiveness.
Prayer
Dear Lord Jesus,
Giver of life and the breath in our lungs; thank you for the gift of life, thank you for the gift of today. Lord would you forgive us for taking your life, forgive us, dear Lord. Make us aware of our sins that we may daily bring them to you, that you may daily cleanse us through your blood that was shed for us. Oh Lord we pray, purify us and cleanse us. For your glory and for our joy.
In Jesus Name, Amen.
The prayer today was thoughtfully crafted by our Lake Mary Adult Ministry Coordinator, Grace Veronica.
Take this prayer and meditate on it throughout the rest of the day.
