STATIONS OF THE CROSS

Jesus is Stripped of his Garments
John 19:23-24

Join us in a journey of reflection through The Stations of the Cross—a powerful practice that invites us to walk through the moments leading up to Jesus’ death.

We encourage you to pause for a moment and read through the following scripture and prayer.

John 19:23-24 (NLT)

23 When the soldiers had crucified Jesus, they divided his clothes among the four of them. They also took his robe, but it was seamless, woven in one piece from top to bottom. 24 So they said, “Rather than tearing it apart, let’s throw dice for it.” This fulfilled the Scripture that says, “They divided my garments among themselves and threw dice for my clothing.” So that is what they did.

Prayer

Dear Lord,

They gambled over your garments. They thrust upon you shame by taking away your last bit of covering. The book of Luke tells us that you arrived as a baby wrapped in swaddling clothes, and now you are naked before those who cast judgment on you. Those who accused you did everything in their power to strip dignity, value, and worth away from you. And yet, even in the loss of garments, we hear the words, “It is finished.” They stripped you of your garments, but they could never strip you of your glory. Lord, let us be in awe of not what was taken from you but what was gained.

Amen.

The prayer today was thoughtfully crafted by our Student Minister, Johnny Outing.

Take this prayer and meditate on it throughout the rest of the day.
